Community, education & skills
The Aberdeen Hydrogen Hub programme helps contribute towards Aberdeen City Council’s ambitions to create a climate positive city and build inclusive growth by supporting hydrogen supply chain development, skills and training, and wider community benefits.
The Aberdeen Hydrogen Hub team is engaging with industry bodies, supply chain companies and education institutions to help bring about these benefits.
We intend to bring community benefits in areas including:
Training and skills
An extensive consultation around skills requirements for the Aberdeen Hydrogen Hub and Scotland’s wider hydrogen economy has been undertaken with relevant parties. You can view the report and its recommendations – which will inform our focus in this area going forward – here
We intend to facilitate apprenticeships and work placements for all ages, including development of hydrogen technical skills.
We plan to support employability further by engaging with the Department for Work and Pensions.
Education
We will build on bp’s extensive experience and investment in STEM learning and engagement for pupils and teachers.
We plan to deliver schools, further and higher education outreach and resources, building hydrogen knowledge, future skills and qualification pathways, working with Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) North East.
Supply chain development
Carrying on our track record of building global supply chain capability, we intend to help suppliers benefit from growth of the wider hydrogen market. Please see our Supply chain page for details.
Community
We plan to continue bp’s long established community volunteering schemes
Members of the public were invited to share their views on the proposed plans for the Aberdeen Hydrogen Hub through a pre-application consultation process. Please access our Public consultation page for more details.
